WHat to Expect
Visiting a new church can be a little uncomfortable as you figure out where to go and how to plug in. We hope to make this as easy for you as possible!
Everything that happens at Third’s worship services is guided by our Worship Values, but here are a few frequently asked questions.
Where should I park?
Parking is available at multiple lots around the church building. Parking closest to the church is available in two lots next to the church building, one accessed from Forest Avenue, the other is behind the church and accessed from Silverspring Avenue. A third large lot is across Silverspring Avenue and can be accessed from Forest Avenue. We can also park at Third’s office building (500 Forest Avenue) and in any of the lots around Tuckahoe Elementary.
What should I wear to Sunday services?
Dress in whatever is most comfortable to you. While some will be in coat-and-tie or dresses, others will be dressed in jeans or something more casual.
When does Communion happen?
We celebrate Communion together as a congregation on the first Sunday of the month! All who acknowledge their need for the grace of Christ are welcome to participate.
Where should a visitor go, once at the church building?
At all the main entrances near the church sanctuary, you should be greeted by people standing near those entrances. They can assist you in finding your way around the building, finding the location of children’s classes, and finding a seat in the sanctuary. If you want to drop your children first though, we recommend entering through the door by the playground.
How will I fit in at Third?
We are a multi-generational church desiring to create a hospitable place of belonging for every type of person. We hope that this is a place-- regardless of your economic status, race, marital status-- that you can encounter God, build community, and take part in God's great work of renewing all things.
What are your services like?
Our worship services bring together music and liturgical resources from our Reformed heritage as well as contemporary worship practices. Musically, you can expect a combination of praise songs and hymns, led by instruments ranging from guitar to organ to mandolin to cello to accordion.
Where do I go with my kids?
We offer childcare during the 8:45 and 11:15 a.m. service for children kindergarten and younger. During the 10:00 a.m. service in the school year, we offer Sunday School for every age!
We do however always encourage families to bring their children into worship so they can learn about worship by participating in it. If your child needs some space, there's a Wiggle Room where the services are streamed live.
