Our Work, God’s Kingdom

For Meditation

This Sunday we have the privilege of hearing from Buddy Childress. Buddy is the founder and President of Needle's Eye Ministries, Inc., an interdenominational Christian organization that has been ministering to the men and women of metropolitan Richmond’s marketplace since 1977. Buddy and his wife Laura have been members of Third since 1980.

Buddy will be walking us through a biblical understanding of work, both the goodness of work in God’s created order, the futility of work under the curse of sin, and how God calls us to use our work to advance his Kingdom and display his goodness. We’ll hear some great stories from Buddy’s decades of experience in working with men and women in the workplaces of Richmond.

Romans 8:20-23

20 For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.

22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. 23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies.

Titus 2:9-10

9 Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them, 10 and not to steal from them, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive.

Revelation 21:1-2

1 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.
