One Another 6: Serve One Another

We live in a "me first" world and this shouldn't come as a surprise to any of us. Our natural tendency is to think of ourselves first and others second or maybe even farther down the list. We do this to people we don't know well (or at all) and also to those we know well and even those we love.
God, however, has called us to live in community with one another and as we do this, we begin to see that putting ourselves first is not the way for a community to flourish. God desires our lives to flourish and in order for that to happen we need to have flourishing communities. And one of the marks of a flourishing community that's centered on Jesus is to serve one another.
As we serve one another, our community will fulfill the purposes that God created for it. Furthermore, we'll be able to take our service beyond our own community and serve our neighbors, those God has brought into our paths. Serving those in our immediate community of Third as well as those who God has brought into our lives enables us to fulfill his purpose for us, to work against our sinful nature, and to live our lives in the way of Jesus, and it's by his power and strength that we can do this.
When it comes to serving one another, how are we doing as a church? How are we doing when it comes to serving our surrounding community? How might God be inviting you to serve those you worship with each week and those he has brought into your path?

Galatians 5:13-15
13 For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love. 14 For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”[a] 15 But if you are always biting and devouring one another, watch out! Beware of destroying one another.
