An Invitation to the Good Life

For Meditation

After a long and languishing season, everyone is ready to dive back into normal life again. But before we just jump back into life, it’s important to remember what the good life actually is. Is the “good life” the life we were living before the pandemic, full of busyness and frenetic activity? Is the “good life” a life of pursuing wealth, success, and power? No. The good life is a life of abundance that Jesus promised us (John 10:10), a rich life in relationship with God, neighbor and creation. This summer series looks at how a rhythm of spiritual practices invites us to experience a life of goodness as God intended it.

This Sunday, we’ll look at these two amazing invitations from Jesus. Jesus wants to give us life that is “exceedingly good,” and a life that is “free and light.” And yet the lives that we all live in our modern, face-paced, tech-driven secular society often feels so far from good, free and light. How can we get there? How can we “re-enter” back into post-pandemic life in a way that receives and experiences these generous invitations from Jesus?

As you prepare for worship this Sunday, spend a few moments getting in touch with your longings for a life that is good, light and free. Can you dare to believe that Jesus actually wants to give this to you? Ask him to show you how to receive it.

John 10:10 (ESV)

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”

Matthew 11:28-30 (MSG)

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
