WHat to Expect
Visiting a new church can be a little uncomfortable as you figure out where to go and what's going on. We hope to make this as easy for you as possible!
Everything that happens at Third’s worship services is guided by our Worship Values, but here are a few frequently asked questions.
When are Third’s Worship Services?
We have three mostly identical worship services every Sunday at 8:45am, 10am and 11:15am.
Where should I park?
Parking is available at multiple lots around the church building (map). Parking closest to the church is available in 2 lots adjacent to the church building, one accessed from Forest Avenue, the other from Silverspring Avenue. A third large lot is across Silverspring Avenue and can be accessed from Forest Avenue, as well as the lot around the Church Office Building at 500 Forest Avenue on the corner of Forest and Ridge. Street parking is available on both sides of Forest Avenue. The lot at Tuckahoe School may also be used.
What should I wear to Sunday services?
Dress in whatever is most comfortable to you. While some will be in coat-and-tie or dresses, others will be dressed in jeans or something more casual. It’s what is in the heart, not the outward appearance that matters most.
What are your services like?
Our worship services bring together music and liturgical resources from our Reformed heritage as well as contemporary worship practices. Musically, you can expect a combination of praise songs and hymns, led by instruments ranging from guitar to organ to mandolin to cello to accordion.
Where should a visitor go, once at the church building?
At all the main entrances near the church sanctuary, you should be greeted by people standing near those entrances. They can assist you in finding your way around the building, finding the location of children’s classes, and finding a seat in the sanctuary.
How will I fit in at Third?
We are a multi-generational church desiring to create a hospitable place of belonging for every type of person. We hope that this is a place-- regardless of your economic status, race, marital status, anything!-- that you can encounter God, build community, and take part in God's great work of renewing all things.
What should I do with my kids?
We offer childcare during the 8:45 and 11:15 a.m. service for children kindergarten and younger. During the 10:00 a.m. service, we offer Sunday School for every age! Classrooms for 2 years old and younger is on the first floor, and 3 years old and up is on the second floor. We do however always encourage families to bring their children into worship so they can learn about worship by participating in it. If your child needs some space, there's a Wiggle Room where the services are streamed live.
For more info on where the individual classrooms are, check out our Sunday Morning Family Ministry page.
Are there adult classes available on Sunday mornings?
Yes, we have multiple classes offered from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. They are updated often, so click here for what's being offered now!
