Give: The Grace of Giving our Lives

For Meditation

In our final sermon in this series, we sum up our focus on generosity by addressing “The Grace of Giving our Lives.” Paul says that the Macedonians “gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us.” Their generosity to others was an outflow of worship- as they saw their entire lives as an offering to the Lord in response to his grace. LJ Jaworski will be our preacher at the 8:45 service and Fakhri Yacoub at the 10 and 11:15.

In preparation for this Sunday, reflect on the words below from the great hymn, “Take My Life,” which we’ll sing as our Song of Response this Sunday.

Take my life and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee.
Take my hands and let them move,
at the impulse of thy love.
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee.
Take my voice and let me sing,
Always, only for my King.
Take my lips and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee.
Take my silver and my gold,
Not a mite would I withhold.
Take my love, my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee.

2 Corinthians 8:1-5

1 And now, brothers and sisters, we want you to know about the grace that God has given the Macedonian churches. 2 In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. 3 For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, 4 they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the Lord’s people. 5 And they exceeded our expectations: They gave themselves first of all to the Lord, and then by the will of God also to us.
