The Barnabas Center is a gospel-centered counseling, training and teaching ministry. Barnabas means “son of encouragement,” and it is their desire to encourage people by coming alongside, entering into their struggles and walking with them toward freedom.
Counseling: Through individual, couples’, and group counseling, licensed counselors assist individuals from adolescents to adults in the midst of struggles.
Training: Barnabas partners with churches and ministries to design training specific to their needs. These courses last from one day to several weeks and equip staff and lay leaders to go deeper in the understanding of dignity, depravity, and dependence on Christ. The core Barnabas Training takes the participant from a biblical understanding of self to peer-supervised care-giving scenarios.
Teaching: Counselors and staff facilitate classes, seminars, conferences and retreats that guide participants toward an authentic relationship with God and more meaningful relationships with people.
The Barnabas Center employs a funding model that combines counseling fees and donations. Many of its clients and participants qualify for the sliding fee scale or scholarships for counseling and/or training. These scholarships are funded through the generosity of individuals and churches, and allow The Barnabas Center to have a greater impact in the Richmond community.
